Application Process

Brown Fox Point enrolls children who are between the ages of 3 and 5 years old on a rolling basis. All children must be toilet trained to enroll at Brown Fox Point (if you have any concerns or wish to discuss toilet training strategies prior to enrollment, please get in touch). A $75 non-refundable application fee is required. There is no fee for families receiving DHS-CCAP support. Please have your CCAP certificate number ready to apply and please call us at (401) 521-5460 if you have any questions.

To give every family a chance at a spot in the program and to ensure that we maintain diverse classrooms that reflect the community we serve, we give priority to certain applicant categories: siblings of past Brown Fox Point students, families receiving state child care subsidies, Brown-affiliated families, families from traditionally disadvantaged community groups in Providence and LGBTQ families.

Transitions

Once you have agreed to enroll your child at Brown Fox Point, we want to do all that we can to ensure that your child’s transition to the program is successful. Therefore, we require at least one adult family member to attend the Center’s Transition Workshop well in advance of the child’s first day. In addition, we strongly recommend that you and your child visit several times prior to your child’s first day. During visits, you and your child can meet the teachers and staff, explore the classroom and playground together, practice key preschool skills, and interact with other children.

Overview Night

Overview Night is a chance for you to spend some time in the space where your child spends a big portion of their day! You'll have the opportunity to chat with your child's teachers about the classroom, curriculum and assessment as well as mingle with some of the other families. If you have questions about your child specifically, there will be a sign-up in the classroom for October check-ins (an informal meeting with your child's teacher about the beginning of the school year).

Overview Night isn't mandatory but is certainly encouraged. There is no formal presentation of any kind so feel free to stop in anytime between 6:30 and 7:30. Childcare will be provided for currently enrolled children if you have no other option. All families receive a copy of the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards Family Fun Activities Packet at this event.

Classroom transitions at Brown Fox Point are minimized due to the utilization of the looping process, where children remain with the same teachers for their entire enrollment at the Center. Additionally, Kindergarten transitions are supported by our collaborative partnerships with local private and public schools, which include screening and outreach activities.
